"I have been Spoonplugging for 37 years, and teaching Spoonplugging for 18 years. Fishing has always been a part of my life, even as a child. I owe it to my father for getting me started. He rarely went fishing without taking me with him, and I miss him dearly. At the age of 18, I was introduced to spoonplugging. My future father in law said he was going to buy this green book, written by a man called Buck Perry. He said that he would read it and then give it to me and we were going to go out and fish in this manner. Since I was dating his daughter at the time and also working for him, I thought it would be best to follow his directions. The success came immediately. A few years later, I got to meet the man that wrote that green book. He wrote me a letter and asked me if I was interested in teaching spoonplugging. I wrote him back and said that I didn't think that I was good enough to teach. He wrote back and said you are now ready to teach and then the letters started coming. A friendship built over the years and it was an honor to have known him. He instilled in me the desire to be as good as the best if there is such a thing. I was one of a few that was hand picked by Buck Perry to teach spoonplugging." --John Bales
